CEO, Deepwater Wind

Deepwater Wind is a development company looking to build the first offshore wind farm in America… we’re here because the state of RI engaged in an ocean planning process a number of years ago that really set the path for citing of this wind farm in this location.  The SAMP [Special Area Management Plan] has been a very important tool that we as developers have used to make sure we were locating our wind farm in the right place. So it was both a planning process and a stakeholder engagement process, which allowed us as developers to better understand the needs of the local community and whether this was a good place for wind farm or not.  At the end of the day, we end up with a more robust project from our perspective because it has more community acceptance and greater stakeholder acceptance.’
